Bringing your old site across
Moving from Pixieset, Flothemes, Squarespace, Showit or WordPress? The importer
reads your existing site and brings your pages and photographs across.
Meridian → Import a site in the standalone admin.
What it does
- You enter your current address
- It reads the pages it can find on that domain and shows you a list
- You tick what you want
- It brings the pages and photographs across as drafts
Nothing is published. You review everything under Pages before a visitor
sees any of it.
What comes across
- Page titles and search descriptions
- Headings and paragraphs you have written
- Full-size photographs, resized and converted here exactly as if you had
uploaded them yourself
What does not
Your old site's design. The layout, colours and typography come from the
Meridian style kit you have chosen. Only your words and your photographs move.
Client galleries behind a password. Pixieset and Pic-Time galleries stay
where they are — those are delivery platforms and Meridian does not replace
them. Link through to them instead.
Forms, shops and booking systems. These need setting up here.
Limits, and why
Twenty-five pages and a hundred and twenty photographs per run. This is a
migration aid, not a scraper, and an unbounded crawl of a large gallery site
would hammer whoever is hosting it — including, quite possibly, you.
Run it again for more pages. It only follows links on your own domain.
If a page comes across badly
Different platforms structure pages very differently, and some are harder to
read than others. If a page arrives empty or scrambled, delete the draft and
rebuild it — usually faster than fixing it, and the photographs are already in
your library either way.
Import only from a site you own
The importer will happily read any public website, and that is not what it is
for. Use it on your own site.
Would you rather we did it?
The importer handles a straightforward site well. What it cannot do is
judgement — which twelve frames from a set of eighty belong in a collection,
or how a homepage should be structured around the sessions you want to book.
If that is what you need, there is a migration service.
